In a bid to compete with ChatGPT, Google is gearing up for the release of its highly-anticipated conversational artificial intelligence software, codenamed Gemini. The tech giant, owned by Alphabet, has reportedly offered a select group of companies early access to this upcoming AI software, signaling Google’s commitment to catching up in the generative AI space.

Gemini’s impending launch carries significant weight for Google, given its increased investments in generative AI throughout the year. This move is seen as Google’s response to the tech world’s fascination with ChatGPT, developed by Microsoft-backed OpenAI and released last year.

Gemini comprises a suite of powerful language models that can power various applications, including chatbots, text summarization, and content generation tailored to users’ preferences. These applications extend to tasks such as composing email drafts, generating music lyrics, and even producing news articles, as highlighted in the report.

Furthermore, it is expected that Gemini will assist software engineers in coding and generating unique images in response to user requests. The report suggests that Google is already providing developers access to an extensive version of Gemini, although it’s not the largest iteration in development. The larger version is anticipated to be on par with GPT-4 in terms of capabilities.

Google plans to make Gemini available to businesses through its Google Cloud Vertex AI service. In a recent move, the company introduced generative AI features to its Search tool, targeting users in India and Japan. These features enable text or visual results to be displayed in response to prompts, including summaries.

Additionally, Google has made its AI-powered tools accessible to enterprise customers at a monthly rate of $30 per user.

Meanwhile, Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, expressed admiration for OpenAI and the launch of ChatGPT during a recent interaction. Pichai deemed the release of ChatGPT as an “exciting moment” and emphasized that artificial intelligence represents a profound platform shift that is approaching a stage where it can be deployed even more extensively.
