Spread the love

As 2026 marches on, Sandalwood is stirring up some serious box office buzz. From mass entertainers to niche dramas, Kannada cinema has had a mixed bag of winners and underdogs. Here’s our breakdown of how films from 2024 through early 2026 have fared, complete with verdicts and key figures.

2026’s Top Performers

KD – The Devil leads the pack in 2026 with a worldwide haul of ₹18.69 cr (₹15.84 cr in India). Its ₹3.5 cr opening day paved the way for an impressive eight-day total of ₹15.13 cr. Hot on its heels, Love Mocktail 3 has charmed audiences to the tune of ₹18.55 cr globally (₹14.89 cr domestically), though its opening day figure of ₹1.36 cr shows it’s more of a long-burning romance.

Mid-Size Ventures & Flops

Not every film surfed the wave. Hayagrriva and Second Case of Seetharam barely crossed ₹2.9 cr and ₹1.6 cr worldwide, respectively. Meanwhile, Rakkasapuradol, Landlord, and Cult have been tagged as “Losing,” signaling they’re yet to break even.

2025 Highlights: Kantara’s Monster Run

Rewind to 2025, and there’s no ignoring Kantara: Chapter 1 smashing records with a staggering ₹845.44 cr global collection. Its jaw-dropping ₹61.85 cr first day blossomed into ₹336.5 cr in just eight days. The Devil (prequel energy or coincidence?) pulled in ₹34.68 cr worldwide, earning a “Plus” verdict, while Su From So soared past ₹123.94 cr to become a “Super Hit.”

How Verdicts Are Decided

  • Super Duper Hit: Over 200% returns & ₹100 cr+ collections
  • Super Hit: Investment doubled plus 50%
  • Hit: Doubles the investment
  • Plus: Recovers cost & modest profit
  • Average: Just breaks even
  • Losing: Under recouping but loss <50%
  • Flop: Loses 50% or more
